For all of you that are interested in reading the article, here it is: http://671grassrootsvideo.wikispaces.com/file/view/YouTube+In+The+Science+Classroom.pdf

This teacher, Jerry Everhart, who was a skeptic of educational technology, now uses YouTube to teach his science classroom concepts in his lessons. He calls it "self-paced, visually stimulating learning." which is spot on. Children love visuals, especially in Elementary and Middle school even. He gives tips on how you can create Youtube-enhanced teaching units. He gives important tips to teachers thinking of using YouTube videos in the classroom such as that the video must be age appropriate, be aligned with instructional objectives and be within the classroom time limitations. Jerry Everhart shows how Youtube doesn't necessarily just have to be using videos that have already been done but it can also be used to make videos and can be used for virtual field trips as well. There are so many educational uses to Youtube that teachers, and their students, could benefit from.

1) What is YouTube?
A video, media website

2) Why is YouTube helpful in the classroom?
Children learn better with technology since we are in the 21st  century and they are so in tune with technology that it would be better.

3) Could it be used at any grade level, in any kind of class?
YES! There are science videos for younger kids, and older kids. There are reading videos for younger kids and older kids.

4)  Is it supplemental to the curriculum or could it stand alone?
It cannot stand alone! It is a supplement!

5) Would you use it in your classroom?
Yes. Children love visuals and learn much better that way.

My teaching philosophy is one that is very student centered. Student centered teaching is the main part of my teaching philosophy. I believe that every student is an individual who needs care and special needs. No child learns the same, therefore they need to be taught differently. They also need to be exposed to creativity as many teachers don't allow for creativity from students. I want to make a change in the students lives- I want them to love education and learning instead of fearing it and running away from it. My students are my main priority and I believe that every one of them has the chance to succeed, regardless of where they come from or what ethnicity they are.

Children are the world. We need to teach them properly and lovingly. They need strict discipline but also tender love and care. My teaching philosophy revolves around the students and how to effectively teach diverse populations. All children are the same- there skin color shouldn't be what you use to judge their intelligence. They can all be taught the same things, just maybe in different ways. Some children are visual learners, some not. Some students like to read, some are better at math. I will accentuate the students strengths rather than their weaknesses. I will approach them with an asset model of teaching rather than a deficit model of teaching in order to give each one of them the chance to learn properly.

Teaching philosophies are beliefs you have about teaching. My beliefs are that every child deserves the same education but in different forms to meet their needs, they deserve to be treated equally regardless of skin color or race, and that they are at the center of my teaching.
