Youtube in the Classroom

This teacher, Jerry Everhart, who was a skeptic of educational technology, now uses YouTube to teach his science classroom concepts in his lessons. He calls it "self-paced, visually stimulating learning." which is spot on. Children love visuals, especially in Elementary and Middle school even. He gives tips on how you can create Youtube-enhanced teaching units. He gives important tips to teachers thinking of using YouTube videos in the classroom such as that the video must be age appropriate, be aligned with instructional objectives and be within the classroom time limitations. Jerry Everhart shows how Youtube doesn't necessarily just have to be using videos that have already been done but it can also be used to make videos and can be used for virtual field trips as well. There are so many educational uses to Youtube that teachers, and their students, could benefit from.

2) Why is YouTube helpful in the classroom?
Children learn better with technology since we are in the 21st  century and they are so in tune with technology that it would be better.

3) Could it be used at any grade level, in any kind of class?
YES! There are science videos for younger kids, and older kids. There are reading videos for younger kids and older kids.

4)  Is it supplemental to the curriculum or could it stand alone?
It cannot stand alone! It is a supplement!

5) Would you use it in your classroom?
Yes. Children love visuals and learn much better that way.
